Louis Allen Volk, age 54 of Bottineau, died Saturday morning at his home. A memorial mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at the St. Mark's Catholic church in Bottineau. He was the youngest of nine children born to Peter and Ludvina ( Bickler) Volk. He attended school in Drake N.D and graduated in 1981. He studied Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the State School of Science in Wahpeton and obtained degrees in both. He then moved to Minneapolis to obtain work in the Heating and Air Conditioning business. He developed an interest in scuba-diving and moved to Houston, TX to attend commercial diving school, Upon completion of the instruction& he worked as a deep-sea welder for about a year. He worked briefly in Ohio testing drilling pipe before returning to Minneapolis. He lived and worked in the Cities as a journeyman pipefitter until the commercial construction work mostly ended during the financial crisis of 2008-2009. He bought a partnership in T & J Plumbing in Bottineau on July 1, 2010. He has resided in Bottineau since. Louis had many interests and enjoyed fishing at Lake Metigoshe. He always had a big garden and canned or preserved much of his own food. He was a big NASCAR and drag racing fan and attended races when time allowed. He recently purchased a hobby farm near Gardena, ND and spent many hours getting things back to working order so he could someday retire there. Louis is survived by brothers Gabe (Barb) in Mandan, Wayne (Lois) in Bismarck, Ron (Karen) in Harvey, Dan (Rosann) in Rugby and sister Jeanette Asleson (Myron) in Devils Lake; many nieces and nephews.
