He was a respected citizen of the town of Sandwich, and was frequently chosen to fill positions of trust. In 1749 he removed to Lebanon, CT. where he bought a farm at the north end of "Town Street". In the spring of 1759 he sold this property and purchased a large tract on the borders of plainfield and Voluntown, CT, where is now the village of Sterling Hill
