maybe born 10 Jan Plainfield, CT Timothy Pope lived in Otsego County until 1804, when he moved to Oswegatchie, St Lawrence County, N. Y. While in Otsego County, he was in the militia, serving as a lieutenant in Francis Henryâs Regiment. From 1806 to 1811 he served as Captain in StLawrence County. About 1816 he moved to what is now Popeâs Mills, where he lived until his death, by being killed by a bursting mill stone. He was a man of influence and considerable wealth. At the time of his death he owned two saw mills, a gristmill, and a woollen mill, and 2000 acres of land. A large dog which he owned refused to eat after his death and mourned himself to death.
