Thomas taught Lawerence Welk how to play the Accordian, and is mentioned as doing so in Lawerence Welk's biography. He lived in and around Bismark, North Dakota. The original spelling of Gutenberg was with only one "T", Thomas changed the spelling to add a second "T" when he came to the United States.
