Anton and Frances Keller and their small son, Lambert, came from Prussia to Ellis Island in 1901 with only the clothes on their backs. They lived for a time with relatives at Devils Lake. Anton homesteaded 160 acres in Berwick Township and walked back to Devils Lake once a month until living quarters were built on the 160 acres. They raised seven children in a small two bedroom home, with only an additional kitchen and living room. They raised cattle, milked cows and farmed and owned approximately 1600 acres when they retired. In 1944 they moved to Towner and continued farming or renting the land until the early 1960's when the land was sold. They managed to survive the 1930's by hard work and sold the land just before the price went way up. Their children were: Lambert; Joseph; Balzer; Magdalena, all deceased; Henry; Anne (Mrs. Anton) Mack; Isabelle (Mrs. Peter) Burkhard, all of Towner; Christine (Mrs. Christ) Volk of Rugby.
