Notes for Adelheid KLOTZ

Adelaide (Ida) worked in the Red and White Store for several years and recalls
the prices as they were in the late 20's and 30's - coffee - twenty-five cents
per pound in bulk; butter - ten cents a pound; eggs - five cents a dozen;
bologna - fifteen cents a pound; bread - five cents a loaf and sardines -
eight for twenty-five cents. But then too, wages during the depression were
five dollars a month and at one time government paid farmers eight dollars a
month to keep a man just to pay for his room and board. She married Frank
Bullinger and they lived on Dad's farm for four years and moved to British
Columbia in 1936. They have five children: Marie (Mrs. Larry Dresher),
Francis, Rita (Mrs. Roger Kronquist), Linda (Mrs. John Gallagher) and Sandra
(Mrs. Dan McQuade).
